Individual Noise - what people are saying

Post  Veritee2 on Mon Jan 14, 2008 3:59 pm

I thought I would start a thread about the noise that individuals are making in their own way - mostly on the Internet on forums, blogs and networking sites - that I have found.
So far I have found the following and will add to this when I find anything new. If anyone else knows of any individual initiatives, please let us know.

This Guys Girlfriend has just been become a resident at the Henderson but told she can only expect 3 months treatment there at most.

Personally, I have been banging my drum as load as I can. I have written many emails and letters, some of which I have even had answers from.

I have bumped and commented on just about every news artical, blog and so on. I have left the forum just about everywhere that it's possible to do so. God only knows how much reading I've done. I have also written to MP's but they are a little slow to answer.

Some of the letter's I have written are in the Post Box on this site.

New site For ex Henderson residents to get in touch

Post  Veritee2 on Sun Jan 20, 2008 1:13 am

Hi Karl
I can see that you are working so hard. I have been working in a different way - mostly through Internet groups and other groups for service users and other contacts, just to publicize the situation as widely as I can. I am also working on the Oral History Project presentation in the hope that this presentation will not be too late and will inform discussions about closure by making it clear what those who have been to the Henderson and other TCs got out of it - i.e confirm its worth, directly from the horses mouth - those who have been there.

I guess I have this approach because my perspective, knowledge ( such as it is) and work in mental health since the Henderson has always been in the area of working directly with service users and sufferers often on advocacy and to facilitate/empower them to effect change. I know that in this case it is not necessary as the ex-residents I have come across during this campaign all seem to be very powerful and competent people, but I feel I have to participate in this using my existing skills and area of interest.

I think we all can do what we can in a way we are comfortable with and I am very glad that you are able to write such letters as I think you write very well and more eloquently than I could and you speak well on behalf of all of us I feel. I look forward to more replies in expectation.

New Site
I am now in contact with new site For ex Henderson residents to get in touch.

Although their main aim seems to be to enable anonymous contact between ex-residents they do have information about the proposed closure . http://www.hendersonhospital.co.uk

They have agreed if I write it to put some thing on their site about the campaign - if there is anything anyone on here wants me to mention, please let me know. I was going to mention this site and the Oral History Group. If you have anything to add please let me know. I thought I would write it later today.

'Official' Save the Henderson Blog has started

Post  Veritee2 on Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:31 am

The 'Official' Save the Henderson Blog has started

http://hendersoncampaign.blogspot.com/

Also it looks like there are now three Facebook 'Save the Henderson' Groups!!
https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16357290514 - started by Lea
https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8014906919 - started by Kath
https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9391352754 - started by Fi Burns

I am getting increasingly worried about fragmentation of the campaign
On the one hand it may be a good thing that there are all theses initiatives 'out there'

But on the other, people who start or are involved in one do not seem to communicate with the others?
I am a member of all of them that it is possible to be a member of and have done my best to engage in them all and add the same information I have to them all, where it allows. As I think that we need to communicate between them.

Is this a good thing to do - I do not know I am a bit lost really with all the different and seemingly separate efforts out there!

Perhaps if others joined all of them too we would begin to coordinate our efforts more?

Re: Individual Noise - what people are saying

I have noticed the fragmentation, it seems that many folk would rather start their own board/blog/webpage than join another, already established site. I guess people just want to do something and starting their own page is the first thing that goes through ones mind. Personally, I don't have enough time to join all these groups. The fragmentation issue is one of the reasons why I started this forum, to try to keep all of such under one roof, so to speak.
