1976 - Veritee
I have finally managed to register on this forum. I did have a few difficulties.
I was a 'resident' at the Henderson in 1976 - Like Karl I will fill people in once this forum is up and running and if anyone has any interest in hearing my story - anyone who remembers me - staff or resident - I would love to hear from you too!
We have a Yahoo group to produce a paper to present for the Oral History Group - broad topic mental health, Birmingham in June 2008
In an attempt to try to contribute to save the Henderson
If anyone wants to join let me know it is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TC-ClosureProject
Just request to join.
Love to you all for now

Re: 1976 - Veritee
Welcome Veritee
Thanks for making an account, I'm not sure if this forum will have any great role in saving the Henderson, I guess we'll have to wait and see what time brings. Anything we can do to save the Hendo has to be a start. The higher the Hendo's profile, the more people with read about it's issues with funding. I have given this a lot of thought over Christmas and also rattled a few Doctors to sign to petitions. Personally, I believe the only way to ensure the Hendo's future is to make it a trust within it's own rights. Make it responsible for it's own funding and then there can be no underhandedness. I do find myself pondering what would happen if the Hendo was closed, the land sold off and who would get the proceeds of the sale??? I could take a guess.
Feel free Veritee to add as much content to this forum as you feel the need to. Also I have been trying to place links in places where there is a chance that people might read and use them.
